Adoption gives children a second chance. A chance at life, at hope for a future, and at having a forever family. For many reasons brave birth parents must make the decision to give up their precious ones. In absolute faith, they hand over a child to a universe of unknown. They have made a decision that this child that they have carried will not survive in their present circumstance, and so they let go. While they may grieve over dreams that they had for this child, they can still hope for a future, a second chance at a good and productive life.
In our family, Grace, Sarah, and Isaiah have all been given that second chance at life. They can learn to read, have family dinner, play soccer, celebrate birthdays, and be tucked in and kissed goodnight. They have medical care, and toys to play with and a bed to sleep in. They are all learning to ride their bikes this week. Sarah is learning the difference between verbs and nouns, Isaiah is learning what vowels are and Grace is learning that getting your teeth fixed is uncomfortable bordering on painful. None of these opportunities would have been available to them with out the gift of a second chance through adoption.
Please know that I am not trying to elevate our family or myself up to hero status because we adopted these three. They are the brave ones here, the heroes. Like their birth parents, we acted in faith. When we heard God's voice telling us to adopt, we obeyed. It was a universe of unknowns to us. Nothing in our human nature would have caused us to venture so far out; it was the love of God that caused us to move, to trust, to continue when the journey became difficult, even impossible. God directed our paths.
Second chances are for all of us. You can have a second chance too. He is the God of grace. "But we believe that through the grace of the LORD Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they." Acts 15:11 God wants you to come to Him. He wants to give you a second chance if you have not yet said yes to Him. He created you and wants you in His family forever. God forgives all of our sins through His son Jesus, so if you want a second chance, a chance at a new and fulfilled life, come to Jesus. It does not matter what you have done in the past. It does not matter where you are right now in your life. That is the beauty of grace, of second chances. God takes us where we are, loves us for who we are and helps us to be the person he wants us to be. Your job is to say yes and to turn from your old ways so that you can become new in Him.
If you want to be a part of God's family, say this prayer and find a church or a friend who can steer you to next steps.
Lord God, forgive me, I am a sinner. I want you and your son Jesus in my life. I believe that Jesus died for my sins, and I receive your healing power in my life. Amen.
We are living in the age of God's grace. When the age of judgement comes, you want to be on God's side. Say yes to Him now.
